Apparently Pennsylvania Lt. Gov. Catherine Baker Knoll showed up at a Marine funeral in Indiana, PA, handed out her business cards, and informed a relative of the fallen marine that the 'gummint' (presumably the state government that she and Governor Rendell head up) was "against the war." She also conducted interviews with the press. She did not meet with the marine's wife or parents, so her claim of offering condolences to the family rings hollow. Governor Rendell went into damage control mode
but only succeeded in adding insult to injury:
But even though Mr. Rendell said "our state supports the men and women who are fighting this war," he echoed Knoll's ghastly war remark: "It's not the business of state government to support the war."
This is coming from a man who sought to eliminate ballots received late (not filled out late) from service men and women fighting in Iraq. He's also fighting to keep military bases open in his state.
And he's up for re-election in 2006. 'Nuff said.
