Hurricane Katrina
Peggy Noonan has a good column on Katrina and its implications for Bush. As frequently happens, Ms. Noonan gives eloquent voice to things felt but difficult to phrase. The federal response to this natural disaster has been disastrous as well, and claims of local and state incompetence, however true, smack of an "everybody else is doing it" defense. The president has a lot of work to do to reassure the public that we are prepared for another disaster (or terrorist attack).

The local, and State Preparation before Katrina made landfall is a study in parallel universes. Mississippi, Alabama, and Florida, prepared well, informed the citizens and helped.
Louisianna State and especially the New Orleans City Government, completetly screwed this one up. I almost think it was deliberate. 40,000 human beings were left behind to die. I can see no other scenerio.......the Red Cross was shut out....2,000 buses with full gas tanks were left parked and were rendered unuseable by the flood, the offer by Amtrak was turned down....the pleas of concerned president of the USofA was ignored.
THEN THEY INVITED THE NEWS CREWS IN TO FILM THE DISPAIR....To make the pictures that would tug at the heartstrings of the world.
IF SOMEONE TREATED A MEMBER OF MY EXTENDED FAMILY LIKE THE DEMOCRATS OF LOUISIANNA TREATED THE POOR, INFIRMED, MENTALLY RETARDED, AND ELDERLY OF NEW ORLEANS...........THERE WOULD BE HELL TO PAY.
You don't treat humans like that, and the scum of LA will pay dearly....mark my words......the word is out, 40,000 people were left behind to die, but the marvelous military of our country saved them.
NOW YOU ARE MORE THAN STUPID IF YOU SEND MONEY OR HELP TO THE SCUM WHO DID ALL OF THIS.
